Revs Advance to USOC Semis with PK Win Over Philly

After a lackluster goalless draw in Utah over the weekend, the Revs showed they mean business in the Open Cup this year with a PK win over the Union. It wasn't exactly ideal considering they allowed the tying goal at the death, but I'm considering this one a "resiliency win".

-Lineup Notes: Brad in goal, interestingly no Herivaux, and Kamara replacing Femi up top close to game time.

-I'd be remiss if I didn't give credit when deserved. Philly keeper Andre Blake played out of his mind tonight. A few save highlights for your pleasure:

That double save in Extra Time, incredible.

-Revs did break one by him though:

Watson with his first as a Rev. Sneaky play from Heaps' men. Honestly didn't know Watson could shoot either, I thought he just passed and crossed.

-Philly at the buzzer...
Another case of "credit where credit is due". The control, the turn, the pass and the finish. All fantastic. You get one and one only Philly.

-To PKs we go...

Don't let Je-Vaughn get hot! All he does is score! Knighton made two saves in the shootout as well.

-A few more highlights:

When your girl comes to your game and you try extra hard cause you promised a goal for her.

If Tom Brady had made that challenge he would have gotten a 6-game suspension.

Kei, we get it, you work out and have world class physical conditioning, please stop showing off. Would have been quite the goal though.

I need this to be the new Stone Cold reaction gif.

Man Of The Match

Next game is Saturday at home against Chicago with a 730 PM kickoff. Revs also play the Fire in the semis of the USOC. Coming for that ass Chicago.

Revs Are Back As Kei Kamara Scores Against His Former Team

Cue the music!

After a pitiful let down of a game resulting is a loss to NYCFC on Wednesday, the Revs bounced back big time against Columbus with a 3-1 win. Despite some subpar officiating that makes you wonder home cooking is actually a thing that happens (Welcome to the Geiger Show), the Revs got back into the playoff picture for the time being.

-Lineup Notes: With Bobby serving a suspension after his red card against NYCFC, Brad Knighton got another start in net. Heaps rolled out his new favorite backline of Tierney, JoGo, London and Farrell. Scotty and Watson in the midfield, Captain Lee creating in the middle with Kelyn and Teal on his sides. Former Crew player Kei Kamara the lone striker up top. Gerson Koffie was questionable, but ultimately didn't even make the 18, along with Juan and Charlie. My gut says two of the three are back in the lineup next week.

-Lee starts it off early:
What a strike. Calm, cool, collected. I know when that hotline bling...

-I thought Lee played very well this game, especially in comparison with last game where he was putrid. His movement was good, and he seemed to have better vision as well.

- A Will Trapp own goal makes it 2-0:

Thought Kelyn had it live. We'll give Kei the assist anyways.

-Ola Kamara cuts the deficit to 2-1 for Columbus:

Brad reallyyyyy should have had that. Gets something on it but just lets it squeak by.

-Kei Kamara is the Ultimate Opportunist:

Definitely a little controversial as it appeared Teal had a penalty shout, but when the whistle doesn't blow, and your opponents let you have a free shot, you take it and score. Heart Shaped Hands baby.

-Shoutout Kelyn Rowe, who played awesome as well. He's so versatile and can excel in literally any role you give him. He has a long term spot in the XI as long as he's healthy. Ride the hot hand Jay.

Man Of The Match
A goal and (kind of) assist against his former team. The floodgates have opened. Kei is taking us all the way up.

Quick shoutout to the crowd as well. A great atmosphere, and you can tell the summer season is upon us because the place was packed (by Revs/Gillette MLS standards). While the Fort is known for leading the chants, a guy next to me on the broadcast side (across form the team benches and near the opposite end of the Fort) started doing the Iceland Viking Chant...

And let me tell you something. It was LIVE. EVERYONE on the section was getting into it. Imagine a full stadium doing that? Some people on Reddit were not too happy with it, but you know what? at least people outside the Fort were getting into the game and fan atmosphere. I love the supporters groups in the Fort, but they do sort of just do the same three chants over and over and over and over. The Viking Clap was something new, trendy and easy to do and follow along with. I hope we keep it up for the rest of the season. It doesnt have to carry over into next season, just do it until our last game of the year. Oh and that guy and his friends also started trolling Tottenham with a chant at the end of the game. You know, because It's Happened Again...

At Real Salt Lake next Saturday at 10 PM (stupid West Coast time). Let's get Mormon.

Revs Poop Their Pants, Give Up 3 Unanswered And Fall To Montreal 3-2

Back at it. Took the US Open Cup game off since it started when I got home from work. Nice little W  over the Cosmos though. Kei got his first goal wearing the New England jersey (though I'm not counting it officially since it wasn't in MLS play). But with the boys up in Montreal and just behind the Impact in the standings, this was a big game before a two game homestead.

-Lineup Notes: Brad Knighton with another start in net after Bobby got the win over the Cosmos. Seems Heaps has decided that the Woodberry-at-CB-Farrell-at-RB situation is here to stay. A good move, since Farrell is obviously more comfortable on the right. Letting Farrell and JoGo help London out masks his inefficiencies as well, which were far too apparent in his games playing as a full back. Daigo with another start next to Scotty as Koffie is still out. Lee (with captains armband) in the middle of Kelyn and Teal, with Kei up top. Samba, Diego, Herivaux, Watson on the bench, as was Femi, who missed the last three contests with a hammy. Davies and Juan both out of the 18.

-Lee's hair wasn't the color of a fresh snow storm, so it was harder to pick him during wide shots. Bummer.
-Good stop by Brad early on. Would have been a disastrous and very Revs-like start:
-THE TALES OF KEI KAMARA'S DEMISE HAVE BEEN GREATLY EXAGGERATED!!!

The release of pressure from the defense up to  Nguyen, Nguyen playing a good pass to Rowe, Rowe controlling it and then playing a perfectly timed through ball to Kei who put it home. A picture perfect goal from the Revs, and a sign that the team we expected them to be is still there somewhere down deep.

-MORE YOU ASK?!?! GRANTED!!!

That's how we expected Kei to score goals here. Whether from a corner, a free kick or just a plain old cross, heading it past the keeper coming off the foot of Chris Tierney.

-Wheels kind of fell off the wagon after that. Making his first start, Montreal's Salazar recorded his own brace on each side of halftime.

JoGo, what are you doing?
Both goals are directly attributed to him. The first one he tries to clear it and just puts it right in front of Brad so Salazar can finish. Second one, Salazar is his man. Three guys on offense, three on defense. Cover your goddamn man, Jose! And if you're not going to do that, don;t whiff on the ball when it comes near you.

-Wheels weren't done falling off yet though:

Clear penalty. I'm going to have an aneurism if I keep going.

And that was that. Two good chances literally at the end, but no dice. Tale of two halves. First frame we saw the Revs dominate the midfield. Scotty was running show. Kei scored two (2) goals. Second half we couldn't do a damn thing. Lee was smothered. Teal turned back into a pumpkin that gives away soccer balls like candy on Halloween. Brad turned into Bobby. Giving up three unanswered after being up 2-0 to lose the game. Sickening. I've said it before but I will say it again for emphasis: this two-game homestead coming up is crucial. Anything less than two wins and I'll be ready to kiss the playoffs goodbye.

Man of the Match
For obvious reasons. Hopefully the first two of many the rest of the season. Let the floodgates open Kei.

July 6 at 730, home to NYCFC. Possible no post since I have work the next morning. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, and hopefully this team doesnt cause me to ump off said bridge.

PS-Al Horford signed for the Celtics while I was writing, so not all bad I guess? Your turn KD...
