Xavier Kouassi, who is set to join New England Revolution in summer, has suffered a torn ACL and MCL. He'll miss 6 months.— Mr. Oli (@aulit_z) February 8, 2016
This also means Kouassi has played his last match for FC Sion on Sunday against FC Zurich. A sad exit for their captain.— Mr. Oli (@aulit_z) February 8, 2016
Well isn't that the most Revs thing ever. I mean other than losing in the MLS Cup. Tease a DP signing--> Player no one has heard of--> Hype starts to build/People talk themselves into signing -->Player gets injured-->Sadness. Rinse. Repeat. Here's the original news on Kouassi in French. Out at least 6 months. #NERevs https://t.co/NofkpizVuN— Mr. Oli (@aulit_z) February 8, 2016
Kouassi wasn't even supposed to join the team until sometime in July, but be ready to hit the ground running and integrate with the team right away, albeit a little tired from just finishing a season. Now you can push that back a month or two depending on how recovery goes. This has basically turned into a 2017 signing. And then theres the fact its no guarantee he comes back the same player we bought from Sion. Injuries of any variety can ruin careers. Ask Radamel Falco. Ask Stu Holden. Just so frustrating.
And now it looks like the Revs will have to go crawling back to Jermaine Jones, who seemed to be out of a spot with Kouassi essentially becoming his replacement. Now JJ has the upper hand at the bargaining table. A need just re-opened for the Revs, and JJ can fill that. The life of a Revs fan I guess.
PS-It's the contrarian bet, but could the front office make another singing? They have two DP spots left once the Kouassi contract kicks in in June. Assuming JJ returns that goes down to one, but certainly another move could be made. Again, a long shot, not impossible, and this Kouassi news many be enough to force the FO's hand.
PPS-Theres a chance JJ just Tonya Harding'd Kouassi. Not a guarantee, but a chance nonetheless.
